Xuejuan Dance Ensemble Information
Xuejuan Feng established the Xuejuan Dance Ensemble (XDE) to promote Chinese dance through instruction and public performances. The goal of XDE is to expose people in the United States to Chinese dance and culture. When it opened its doors in 2009, the group quickly became a haven for dancers of all ages, styles, and levels in greater Washington, DC. The group provides intensive, all-encompassing training in both Chinese classical dance and Chinese folk/ethnic dance.
Tibetan, Mongolian, Uyghur, Dai, Wa, Yi, Korean, and Miao dances are among those taught to students. In addition, they learn how to use traditional Han props like fans, ribbons, and handkerchiefs to perform several folk dances. Ballet, taichi, martial arts, and Chinese acrobatics are traditional arts from which dancers draw inspiration during their classical dance training.
XDE has a sizable fan base in the DC area. Metro DC dance events that have featured XDE include the Annual World Dance Showcase of DC, the VelocityDC Festival, the Virginia Dance Coalition's Annual Showcase Gala and DanceFest, the Atlas Center's Intersections Dance Festival, and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, where the group has a strong presence in the Chinese community. XDE also works with international dancers to increase international tolerance and respect.
