X League Playoffs Information
The X-League is an American top-level football league that is held in Japan. It was founded as the Japan American Football League in 1971 and changed its name to the X League in 1997. The league consists of three divisions that are X1, X2, and X3. There is also promotion and relegation among the three. The three-tier league teams are split into Central, East, and West divisions. Two types of teams are present, one being a club team that anyone can try out, and the other one is a company team where only employees of that particular sponsoring company can play.
Rules of the X-League are based on those of the NCAA college division implied in the United States. There is an exception of the length of quarters of 12 minutes instead of 15 during the league’s first stage of the season. The Japanese national team won the first and second editions of the American Football World Cup. The team was made up entirely of players from the X-League. The recruitment of Americans often occurs for X-League teams with such a strict rule of four per team, and only two foreign players are allowed per team on the field of play at a time.
There is a total of 53 teams in all three divisions of the X-League. Obic Seagulls have the most title wins of the league with nine titles. The league also has an award named the X-League Fairplay Award, given to the team that acquired the fewest penalties during the regular season.
