Natalie Laura Mering (June 11, 1988) is an American musician, songwriter, and singer. She is professionally known as Weyes Blood, who was born in Santa Monica, California, and raised in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Mering has a complete musical background that also helped her see a career as a musician from early childhood. At the age of 15, she began writing songs with the moniker Wise Blood. Later on, she used the moniker Weyes Bluhd on several self-released records and eventually changed the spellings to Weyes Blood. The name was taken from Flannery O’Connor’s novel titled “Wise Blood.”
Weyes Blood began her musical career as a bassist in the Portland-based band called Jackie-O Motherfucker though she later joined Nautical Almanac. Mering has worked with many record labels, including Sub Pop, Not Not Fun, and Mexican Summer. She released her debut album entitled “The Outside Room” on May 10, 2011. She has collaborated with several artists for their notable releases such as Raw Thrills, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Mild High Club, Drugdealer, Perfume Genius, Kirin J. Callinan, Father John Misty, The Killers, and Jerry Paper.
Weyes Blood’s notable studio albums that she released throughout her career include The Innocents (October 21, 2014), Front Row Seat to Earth (October 21, 2016), and Titanic Rising (April 5, 2019). She has also released four extended plays such as Angels in America/Weyes Blood Split (August 15, 2011), Cardamom Times (October 19, 2015), Myths 002 (January 27, 2017), and Rough Trade Session (October 22, 2019). A few popular singles by her are Cardamom, Tears on Fire, Andromeda, Everyday, and Movies.
