Dozens of well-known Latino pop performers, such as Daddy Yankee and Becky G, perform at the yearly music festival. Daddy Yankee has been making music since 1990, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The term he created in 1994, "reggaeton," characterizes a new musical style emerging in Puerto Rico that blends elements of American hip-hop, Jamaican reggae rhythms, and Hispanic rapping, and it catapulted him to fame. He has been given the title "King of Reggaeton" by many people in the music industry and fan base.
Despite moderate success with his first two albums, his career took off after the release of Barrio Fino (2004). It topped the charts in France, Italy, and Mexico and rose to No. 26 on the Billboard 200. Even when he released a few more albums, they all charted on the Billboard 200. His biggest hit, "Gasolina," reached number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 and seventeen on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. Becky G was born to Mexican American parents in Inglewood, California.
Her breakthrough came when her song "Shower" entered the Billboard Hot 100's top 20 that same year. Her two subsequent studio albums are Mala Santa (2019) and Esquemas (2022). Both albums were successful commercially, with No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and No. 28 in Spain. She has been honored with numerous accolades and nominations in recognition of her musical achievements.
