USA Swimming Information
USA Swimming is a national governing body in the United States that is dedicated to competitive swimming. The body was originally founded in 1980. It was originally called United States Swimming (USS). Some of its other names are USA-S, United States Swimming, USA Swimming, USS, and U.S. Swimming. Before creating the USA Swimming, the AAU, or the Amateur Athletic Union, served as the governing body for swimming along with other sports across the nation. The AAU continues to hold several aquatic events, but it is not the official governing body of the sport now.
USA Swimming is affiliated with United States Aquatic Sports. The national headquarters of the facility is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Bob Vincent is the current chairperson for USA Swimming, whereas Tim Hinchey is the CEO. Some of the past presidents include Ross Wales (1980–1984), Carol Zaleski (1986–1990, 1994–1998), Dale Neuburger (1998–2002), Ron Van Pool (2002–2006), Bruce Stratton (2010–2014), Jim Sheehan (2014–2018), and a few more. The two former chief executives are Ray Essick (1980–1997) and Chuck Wielgus (1997–2017).
USA Swimming is made up of many parts and levels. The National governing body serves at a national level, whereas the Zone serves at a regional level. The Local Swimming Committee is responsible for local or state level. The USA Swimming also established USA Swimming's Safe Sport program to raise awareness and reduce the risk of abuse.
