UC San Diego Tritons Mens Basketball Information
The UC San Diego Tritons men's basketball team plays in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I level and is part of the Big West Conference. They represent the University of California San Diego (UC San Diego).
La Jolla's Liontree Arena is the home court for the UC San Diego basketball team. They made it to the first round of the NCAA West Regionals after winning the CCAA tournament at the end of the 2007–08 season. After a rough patch, the squad has been largely successful under Eric Olen's tutelage in recent years.
This team ran second in the 2015–16 NCAA West Region. For the first time, they won the CCAA regular-season title, CCAA Tournament, and NCAA West Region again in 2016–17. In 2017–18, the squad repeated as CCAA Tournament champions; however, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the NCAA West Regional.
Of all the schools now members of the CCAA, the Tritons hold the record for most tournament titles with three. The Tritons' tournament appearance count includes six in Division II and four in Division III.
In 2020, Triton's basketball team joined the Big West Conference and moved to NCAA Division I. They can only participate in March Madness once the reclassification period concludes in 2024.
