Tulane University fields a baseball team in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Greer Field at Turchin Stadium is home to the Green Wave baseball team playing in the American Athletic Conference. Jay Uhlman is in charge of them as head coach. Tulane has made 21 NCAA Regional Appearances, including 3 Super Regionals and 2 trips to the College World Series, and has won 15 conference championships over three different leagues.
The 1893 season marked Tulane's inaugural year of varsity sports. The score of 10-2 defeated the Southern Athletic Club. In 1948, Tulane was crowned Southeastern Conference champions. After the 1966 season, Tulane no longer competed in the SEC. Stephen Martin, a walk-on attending the school on an academic scholarship, made history as the first African American to play a varsity sport in the SEC during the institution's final season in the conference.
In 1994, Rick Jones was hired as Tulane's new head baseball coach. Tulane joined Conference USA in its inaugural 1996 season. The team's 55 victories in 2001 were both a school record and a national best. They got it to Omaha for the College World Series, where they lost 13-11 to Stanford after blowing an 8-0 lead. The Green Wave's following game was a 6-5 victory over Nebraska, but Cal State Fullerton eliminated them in the third game.
