Tom Toro Information
Tom Toro is a well-known American cartoonist and writer. He has published over 200 cartoons in The New Yorker since 2010, and his cartoons have appeared in the New York Times, the Paris Review, Playboy, American Bystander, and many more. “How to Potty Train Your Porcupine” was his debut children’s picture book that came out in the spring of 2020. The book was published through Little, Brown. In 2017, a collection of Trump cartoons entitled Tiny Hands was published by Dock Street Press.
Tom attended NYU graduate film school. He co-created films there that played at Sundance, Cannes, and Tribeca. Later, he graduated from Yale cum laude and received the Betts Prize for his literary work. During this time, he was serving as captain of the national-champion lightweight rowing team as well as a cartoon editor for the Yale Herald.
Tom has also written short stories for Slush Pile and Litro (UK) and the New Haven Review. He contributed a dozen essays to the New Yorker Cartoon Encyclopedia. His fiction has successfully been shortlisted for the Disquiet International Literary Prize.
Currently, Tom is finishing a graphic memoir that is about becoming an artist during turbulent times. He has also produced presentations on cartooning at Columbia University, Litquake San Francisco, the Kansas City Art Institute, and Day of Knowledge in Mexico City.
