The Wildhearts is an English rock band. The current lineup consists of Danny McCormack (vocals and bass), Ritch Battersby (drums), CJ (vocals and guitar), and Ginger (guitar and vocals). The music press frequently describes the band's style as a fusion of hard rock and melodic pop, citing inspirations as varied as the Beatles and Metallica from the 1980s.
Although they encountered issues with record labels and had several internal issues, many of which were related to drugs and despair, The Wildhearts managed to have multiple top 20 songs and two top 10 albums in Britain. A significant portion of the band's early career was impacted by contentious disputes with their record label, East West. Ginger, the band's founder, lead vocalist, and guitarist has remained the only permanent member throughout the group's existence.
Several band members have made multiple appearances on the lineup. Ginger has also broken up or put the band on hiatus several times. The band occasionally got together in the 2010s for different anniversary tours. After the band's 1995 lineup performed a 2018 anniversary tour, they returned to the studio. After a ten-year sabbatical, they returned in 2019 with a new album. 21st Century Love Songs, their most recent album, was released in September 2021.
