The Dead South Information
Canadian folk-bluegrass band The Dead South hails from Regina, Saskatchewan. With Nate Hilts on vocals, guitar, and mandolin, Scott Pringle on guitar, mandolin, and vocals, Danny Kenyon on cello and vocals, and Colton Crawford on banjo, the band first came together in 2012 as a quartet. After Eliza Mary Doyle, a studio musician, replaced Crawford in 2015, Crawford eventually returned to the band in 2018. In 2020, Kenyon departed from the band due to accusations of sexual misconduct; nevertheless, he returned in 2021.
Before the release of their 2013 first EP, The Ocean Went Mad and We Were to Blame, which consisted of five songs, the band performed live. German label Devil Duck Records launched their album Good Company in 2014, which sparked a two-year run of extensive international touring. Many credit the band's breakthrough release to the single "In Hell, I'll Be in Good Company" from the album and the viral video accompanying it on YouTube.
We Were to Blame (2013), Sugar & Joy (Six Shooter Records, 2019), Illusion and Doubt (2016), and Good Company (2014) are the three studio albums that The Dead South has released. They have also released two EPs, Easy Listening for Jerks Pt. 1 and Pt. 2, and Served Live (Six Shooter Records, 2020) as live albums.
