The Alarm Information
The Alarm is a Welsh alternative/new wave rock band in Rhyl, Wales. The current lineup of the group consists of Steve “Smiley” Barnard (drums), Jules Jones Peters (keyboards), Mark Taylor (keyboards and guitar), James Stevenson (guitars and bass), and Mike Peters (vocals, guitars, and harmonica). They started as a punk band billed as “The Toilets,” under the lead vocalist Mike Peters, in 1977. Soon the band embraced rock music with a noticeable influence on the Welsh language and culture.
The Alarm’s first single, “Sixty Eight Guns,” released in 1983, reached number 17 in the UK Singles Chart. This song later appeared in their first debut studio album, “Declaration,” released in 1984 by IRS Records. They got significant popularity for being a 1980s new wave pop band, as they opened for acts such as Bob Dylan and U2. Later, the band released one after another studio albums biennially, with songs hitting the UK Single Charts till 1991. The studio albums were “Strength,” “Eye of the Hurricane,” “Change,” which was a homage to native Wales, joined by another Welsh-language version, “Newid,” and the fifth and final was “Raw.”
Despite all the success, after the release, Peters announced that he was leaving the band at the Brixton Academy. However, he added MM++ to “The Alarm” to sign legal rights. The hits under The Alarm MM++ were “45RPM”, “Under Attack, “Guerrilla Tactics.” In contrast, Dave Sharp, under The Alarm’s band, showcased the band’s American setlists in his version “AOR- Spirit of the Alarm” in April 2008.
Peter then re-imagined the Alarm’s songs with a fresh take of the 21st century. The most recent album is “War” on the pandemic, released in 2021.
