Vocalist/multi-instrumentalist/banjo player Mike Savino performs under the stage name Tall Tall Trees. While playing as Tall Tall Trees, Savino is often a "one-man psychedelic indie-folk orchestra," though he occasionally performs with partners. He was an early innovator in the field of banjo music experimentation. The song by George Jones and Roger Miller with the same title served as inspiration for the project's title.
Savino has dubbed his collection of homemade instruments and gadgets the "Banjotron 5000." He created it on his own so he could perform solo at concerts. He plays his banjo through a rack of effects and loopers, adding drums, percussion, and strumming to create complex arrangements that complement his lyrically focused tunes.
