Sugar Ray Information
Sugar Ray is an American rock band originating from Newport Beach, California. The current lineup of the group consists of Kristian Attard (bass guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals), Dean Butterworth (drums), Mark McGrath (lead vocals, additional percussion, rap, and additional guitar), and Rodney Sheppard (lead guitar, ukulele, and backing vocals). The group mainly plays heavier nu-metal style music. The group has also achieved mainstream popularity with their pop-influenced single entitled “Fly” during 1997.
In 1995, Sugar Ray released its debut album entitled, Lemonade and Brownies. The album helped the band in earning recognition, specifically in alternative circles. The band gained popularity after the release of its second album, Floored, in 1997. The same year, Sugar Ray was featured in Father’s Day, starring Robin Williams and Billy Crystal.
On January 12, 1999, Sugar Ray came up with their third studio album entitled 14:59. The album reached number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. They also went on tour to support the album. The most notable performance during that tour was at Woodstock 99.
Sugar Ray released its self-titled studio album on June 12, 2001. The album produced the hit single “When It’s Over,” which reached number 13 in the United States. Other singles of the album, such as “Words to Me,” “Under the Sun,” and “Answer the Phone,” gained some attention as well.
Sugar Ray released a few more studio albums, including In the Pursuit of Leisure (2003), Music for Cougars (2009), and Little Yachty (2019).
