State Street Ballet Information
State Street Ballet was created in 1994 in Santa Barbara, California. Rodney Gustafson and William Soleau oversee the company's artistic direction from opposite coasts. Pioneering in nature, the group brings together dancers from around the globe to create cutting-edge performances for a diverse audience. Classical standards and new compositions that showcase the ensemble's contemporary essence and talent are given the utmost attention and artistic polish each season. Each of the 20 dancers in the company hails from one of five different countries.
State Street Ballet has presented works by Agnes de Mille, George Balanchine, Robert Battle, Autumn Eckman, Kevin Jenkins, Gina Patterson, Peter Pucci, Margo Sappington, Kassandra Taylor Newberry, Josie Walsh, and Edgar Zendejas. Artistic Directors Rodney Gustafson (The Nutcracker), William Soleau (Romeo & Juliet), and San Francisco-based choreographer and Emmy Award winner Robert Sund (Carmen, An American Tango, Carmina Burana), among others, contribute to the company's repertoire of groundbreaking new works (Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, Taming of the Shrew).
State Street Ballet is dedicated to bringing our brand of cultural enrichment to every city we visit, no matter how big or little. Maintaining a focus on motivating the next generation and expanding into new communities has always been an objective. Collaborating with local groups, including the Santa Barbara Symphony, Opera Santa Barbara, Music Academy of the West, and Santa Barbara Choral Society, has become a staple of the city's cultural calendar.
