Smerz Information
Smerz is an electronic music duo from Norway currently residing in Copenhagen, Denmark. After meeting each other at the University of Copenhagen, founding members Catharina Stoltenberg and Henriette Motzfeldt decided to pursue a career in music instead of continuing their education. In 2017, Smerz became a member of the XL Recordings roster.
They announced tour dates in the United States in 2019, one of which was at the Pitchfork Midwinter festival. Stoltenberg and Motzfeldt have pointed to DJ Rashad and Rihanna as sources of inspiration. They have also mentioned the television show Girls as an influence. Stoltenberg is a Norwegian politician, and her father, Jens Stoltenberg, is the Secretary General of NATO and the daughter of Jens Stoltenberg.
