Multi-instrumentalist Mark Sloan, Jr, created the New York-based indie rock group, Slark Moan. His music pays homage to the pop sensibilities and dry drum sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. It also includes the experimental lyricism and low-fi rebelliousness of indie bands from the 1990s and 2000s. The music is a stiff concoction with elements of Pavement, Harry Nilsson, and Albert Lee threw in for good measure. It reaches out to another reality: Jeff Mangum and George Harrison spend their weekends hanging out in a cellar, slumped over a four-track.
Sloan has performed onstage with some of the top names in the Americana and country music scenes throughout the past ten years as a hired gun guitarist in Nashville. Sloan's live performance incorporates the scorching telecaster guitar technique he honed during those early Nashville years, which supports his melodic insight and the vibrant harmonic landscape of his songs. The late-2019 publication of Sloan's debut album "Superstition For the Consumer Romantic" was praised by American Songwriter Magazine and NPR affiliate KCRW.
