Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is represented by the men's basketball team, the Saint Joseph's Hawks. The school plays in the Atlantic 10 Conference and is part of the NCAA's Division I. In addition to being a member of the Philadelphia Big5, Saint Joseph's also competes. Following Phil Martelli's dismissal as head coach on March 19, 2019, following 24 seasons in the position, Billy Lange was hired to coach the team on March 28, 2019. Following their NCAA tournament trip, the Hawks had high hopes for the 2014–15 season, but they were disappointed to finish with a 13–18 record. This team last competed in the NCAA Tournament in 2016. At the end of the 2015–16 season, the squad had a record of 28–8, enough for second place in the Atlantic 10 Conference. 

The A-10 Player of the Year award went to DeAndre Bembry. After beating VCU, the Hawks earned their fourth straight A-10 title. After beating 9-seeded Cincinnati in the first round and falling to 1-seeded Oregon in the second, the Hawks were given the no. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament. On sixteen occasions, the Hawks have participated in the NIT. The sum of their records is 16-16.
