Renee Elise Goldsberry Information
Renée Elise Goldsberry (January 2, 1971) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She is from San Jose, California, and grew up in both Houston, Texas and Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 8, Goldsberry was introduced to the theater in summer camp. Later on, she graduated from Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and went to Carnegie Mellon University. Goldsberry had earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater, in 1993 from the University. She also attended graduate school at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music.
Goldsberry began her professional career with a recurring role on the Fox legal comedy-drama Ally McBeal between 1997-2002 and enjoyed a part for the three-episode guest appearance on the spin-off series named Ally. From 2003 until 2007, Goldsberry portrayed attorney Evangeline Williamson on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live. A few hit films she appeared in are Palco & Hirsch, All About You, Turnaround, Pistol Whipped, Jump the Broom: A Musical, and The House with a Clock in Its Walls.
Goldsberry starred as Henrietta Lacks in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, the HBO television film adaptation of Rebecca Skloot's nonfiction work, in 2017. Some of her other television appearances are Any Day Now, Star Trek: Enterprise, The Return of Jezebel James, Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway, The Good Wife, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Documentary Now!. Her discographies include Everything But the Kitchen Sink (2001), A Holiday Affair (2006), and The Color Purple (2006).
Goldsberry won the Soap Opera Digest Award 2005, Drama Desk Award, Lucille Lortel Award 2015, a Tony Award, a Grammy Award, and Broadway.com Audience Award 2016.
