Raúl Francisco Martínez-Malo Jr. (August 7, 1965) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and guitarist from Miami, Florida, who is professionally known as Raúl Malo. His music is classified as neotraditional country, Tex-Mex, Americana, western swing, salsa, classic pop, country pop, country rock neo-swing, and vocal jazz. Raúl Malo is the lead singer of The Mavericks, a renowned country music band and co-writer of many of their singles.
Raúl Malo co-wrote the hit single by Rick Trevino, entitled “In My Dreams” in 2003. In the early 2000s, The Mavericks band was disbanded, allowing Malo to pursue a solo career. In 2001, he participated in Los Super Seven, which is an American supergroup. The Mavericks re-formed in 2012, winning the Americana music award for the Duo/Group of the Year in 2015.
Malo also starred in the Weston Woods adaptation of Antarctic Antics – A Book of Penguin Poems by Judy Sierra in 2000. He sang the ballad entitled “Be My Penguin.” Malo also sang The National Anthem on July 29, 2012, at the Brickyard 400 NASCAR race in Indianapolis, IN.
“I Said I Love You,” “Today,” “Feels Like Home,” “Lucky One,” and “Moonlight Kiss” are some of the hit singles by Malo. He also released a few notable studio albums throughout his career, including You’re Only Lonely and Marshmallow World & Other Holiday.
