Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (December 9, 1974) is a Pakistani vocalist who sings predominantly Qawwali, a type of Sufi devotional music. Among Pakistan's most well-known and best-paid vocalists is Khan. Born the son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan and grandson of Qawwali singer Fateh Ali Khan, he is the nephew of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Apart from Qawwali, he also delivers light music like ghazals. He is also well-known as a playback singer in Pakistani films and Hindi movies.
Rahat made his first public performance at the death anniversary of his grandfather when he was nine years old. Having turned fifteen, he was a regular member of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's well-known qawwali ensemble and accompanied his uncle across the United Kingdom in 1985. Apart from covering his responsibilities in the Qawwali ensemble, he sang solo at several events.
"Zaroori Tha" from Back 2 Love (2014) became the first Indian non-film music video to reach 100 million YouTube views within two years and 200 million within three. When Rahat was invited to the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize event, he became the first Pakistani to be on stage at any Nobel Prize performance. He sang "Aao Parhao" there as well as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's most unforgettable Qawwali, "Tumhe Dillagi" and "Mast Qalandar."
