Portland State Vikings Football Information
The Portland State Vikings are the intercollegiate American football team for Portland State University, located in Oregon. As a member of the Big Sky Conference, the squad competes in NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). In 1947, the school hosted its first football team. Hillsboro Stadium, which seats 7,600 people, is where the squad plays its home games. The Viking football team practices at Peter W. Stott Field on campus.
The Vikings made two appearances in the I-AA/FCS playoffs with an 0–2 overall record. From 1987 to 1995, the Vikings made the Division II playoffs eight times, with an overall record of 12–8. Joe Holland (1974-1954), Ralph Davis (1955-1956), Les Leggatt (1957-1958), Hugh Smithwick (1959-1961), Tom DeSylvia (1962-1962), Jerry Lyons (1963-1967), Don Read (1968-1971), Ron Stratten (1972-1974), Mouse Davis (1975-1980), and a few others are among the list of head coaches. Since 2015, Bruce Barnum has been the Vikings' head coach.
