Phil Roy Information
Phil Roy (February 28, 1959) is an American singer and songwriter. He was born in Philadelphia and started playing guitar when he was nine years old. Roy attended Berklee College of Music in Boston at the age of 17. He then moved to Los Angeles in 1981 and began discovering on Sunset Boulevard by Ted Templeman, a music executive from Warner Bros. Roy soon decided to become a songwriter and said goodbye to the recording industry. He worked for numerous publishers for fifteen years, including Pops Staples, The Neville Brothers, Joe Cocker, and Ray Charles.
Roy has also contributed songs to the soundtracks for Leaving Las Vegas and As Good as It Gets. He has also won the 9th Annual Independent Music Awards for Best Concept Album: In The Weird Small Hours. He released his solo debut album entitled, Grouchyfriendly in January 2000. The album was released on Roy’s label called Ear Pictures. He released his second album entitled, Issues + Options in 2003. He performed at the Lincoln Center to a sold-out crowd. The show was part of the “America Songbook” series in January 2004.
Roy has worked throughout his career co-writers include Hans Zimmer, Cathy Dennis, Adam Cohen, Roy Hay, Paul Carrack, Julian Coryell, Heitor Pereira, John Shanks, Shelly Peiken, Dennis Matkosky, and Steven Alan Davis.
