Grupo Pesado is one of the more well-known bands of this soul-filled genre. The members of the band, Pepe Elizondo and Beto Zapata, have long wanted to start a band. Pepe Elizondo plays the bass and also sings; Beto Zapata plays the accordion. What distinguishes them as a band is that they started combining more popular and contemporary songs with the classic sounds of norteña music.
At a Grupo Pesado event, lovers of their music may hear hits like "Te Lo Pido Porfavor," "No Tengas Miedo De Llorar," "Pideme," and "Como Le Hago?." Toño Pequeño plays bass in the band, while Julio Tamez and Luis Mario Garza are on percussion and drums, respectively.
The band has developed throughout the years, and their CD Mil Historias serves as evidence of this as it pushed the band's popularity from Mexico to the U.S. Top 10 regional Mexican music on Billboard includes their albums and songs. Apart from covering hit songs, the band has been well-known for performing theme music for Televisa episodes, including "Cuanto Quieres Perder?"
