Penn Jillette Information
Penn Jillette (March 5, 1955) is an American author, presenter, inventor, magician, musician, and actor. In 1983, Jillette hosted and introduced the first touring concert by the Residents, an avant-garde band. Between songs in their performance (entitled The Mole Show and based on their "Mole trilogy" of albums), Jillette came out and spoke rambling, meaningless anecdotes.
The show was set up to look like it was falling apart as it went on, with Jillette acting increasingly angry with the audience and the lighting and music becoming more disorganized until he was finally dragged off stage and returned in a wheelchair to give his final monologue. A member of the audience attacked Jillette as he was chained to the wheelchair during one performance.
Jillette later provided commentary for a pair of documentaries about the Residents. Between 1990 and 1994, Jillette wrote a regular column on the back page of PC/Computing magazine, which is no longer in print. In the 1990s, Jillette was the network announcer for the popular American comedy cable channel Comedy Central.
Penn & Teller: Bullshit!, which Jillette and Teller started producing and hosting in 2003, airs on Showtime. The two discuss cultural phenomena, dispel falsehoods, and critique individuals and institutions they label "bullshit" on their show.
