Patti LuPone Information
Patti Ann LuPone (April 21, 1949) is an American singer and actress born in Northport, New York. She is best known for her work in musical theater. Her career began in 1972 with The Acting Company, and she quickly rose to prominence thanks to her stellar performances in Broadway and West End productions. A member of the American Theater Hall of Fame since 2006, she has garnered three Tonys, two Oliviers, and two Grammys.
She first appeared on Broadway in 1973's Three Sisters. She went on to win three Tony Awards, including two for Best Actress in a Musical (for her 1980 and 2008 performances, respectively), one for Best Featured Actress in a Musical (for her 2022 portrayal as Joanne in Stephen Sondheim's Company), and two for her turns as Eva Perón in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita.
The three Laurence Olivier Awards she won for her work on the West End stage were for Best Actress in a Musical in Les Misérables and Moll in The Cradle Will Rock. She also won Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical (for Company, 2019).
In the surrealist horror film Beau Is Afraid, directed by Ari Aster and released in 2023, she portrayed Mona, Beau's mother. In 2023, LuPone announced that she would portray Lilia Calderu in the forthcoming Disney+ series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In comic books, the character Calderu is Romani.
