Oklahoma Sooners Softball Information
The Oklahoma Sooners softball team plays NCAA Division I College softball for the University of Oklahoma. Home games are held at Love's Field in Norman, Oklahoma, and the team participates in the Big 12 Conference. Patty Gasso is the head coach of the Sooners at the moment.
Oklahoma has a remarkable resume that includes 15 conference titles, 29 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, 16 appearances in the NCAA Women's College World Series, and 7 NCAA championships. Oklahoma was also a part of the AIAW Women's College World Series on four occasions.
In 2021, the Sooners defeated Wichita State, Texas A&M, and Morgan State in their regional, which they hosted as the top overall seed. They defeated Washington in two games to get to the Super Regional they hosted. Their first-round match in the Women's College World Series was a loss to James Madison University.
Afterward, they eliminated Georgia and UCLA in consecutive games and advanced to the title game by defeating James Madison twice and James Madison once. They were defeated in the first game of the final series by Florida State, but they rallied to win games two and three, securing their fifth national championship.
In 2023, the Sooners had a record-breaking 53-game winning streak in NCAA Division I softball. They went undefeated over the whole season (61-1) and captured their seventh national title—their third in a row. They made history by being the first team to do it since 1988–1990 UCLA.
