NTT IndyCar Series Information
At the Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, the Hy-VeeDeals.com 250 presented by DoorDash and the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 presented by Google are IndyCar Series races. In 2007, the first event took place. It was a 250-lap (218.75-mile) race from 2007 through 2013, but it was enlarged to 300 laps in 2014. (262.5 miles). The race was reduced to 250 laps in 2020, with two 250-lap races on Friday and Saturday night. It will return to the 2022 program after being removed from the calendar for 2021.
On July 9, 1915, Iowa hosted its first Championship Car race. Bob Burman won a 100-mile (160-kilometer) race organized by AAA at the Tri-State Fair Grounds in Burlington, Iowa. In 1915 and 1916, further AAA races were held at Valley Junction's Des Moines Speedway, a one-mile (1.6 km) wooden board track. Des Moines hosted only two championship car races, which Ralph Mulford and Ralph DePalma won, respectively, before the circuit closed and was dismantled shortly after.
Officials from IndyCar and Iowa Speedway confirmed on August 6, 2006, that the first IndyCar race at Iowa Speedway would take place on June 24, 2007. The race itself was a wreck, with 10th-place finisher Scott Dixon finishing 77 laps behind the winner, Dario Franchitti. Iowa Speedway announced in October 2013 that the 2014 race would be expanded to 300 laps.
