New York Pops Information
Not only is the New York Pops the sole professional symphony orchestra in the Big Apple that focuses on pop music, but it is also America's biggest independent pop orchestra. Under Steven Reineke's leadership, the orchestra plays Carnegie Hall for a subscription series and birthday gala once a year. The New York Pops hold their annual birthday gala in the spring to benefit the PopsEd initiatives and the orchestra.
Their previous media endeavors include appearances on PBS, a nationally syndicated radio series, and NBC Television's Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular. The orchestra's discography includes popular standards, film and theater scores, and holiday music.
In 1983, Skitch Henderson established the New York Pops. The New York Pops rely entirely on individual contributions, corporate sponsorship, institution grants, and ticket sales to sustain their non-profit mission.
