New York Philharmonic Information
The New York Philharmonic is a symphony orchestra situated in New York City. Its full name is the Philharmonic-Symphony Society of New York, Inc.. Still, it is most commonly called the New York Philharmonic Orchestra (NYPO) or the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra. This orchestra is considered one of the "Big Five" of American orchestras. The Philharmonic's home is David Geffen Hall in New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The orchestra was established in 1842, making it a historic-cultural landmark in the United States.
Deborah Borda is the orchestra's current president and chief executive officer. Borda had previously served as the orchestra's managing director in addition to the other positions he now holds. Borda stepped down as president and CEO of the orchestra on June 30, 2023. Gary Ginstling was named the orchestra's new president and chief executive officer in June 2022, with his tenure set to begin on July 1, 2023. In the fall of 2022, Ginstling officially became the orchestra's executive director.
During the 2021-2022 season, the orchestra performed at Alice Tully Hall, the Rose Theater, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. In November of 2022, for the first time in the orchestra's existence, more women than men were present. In 2007, Gustavo Dudamel debuted as a New York Philharmonic guest conductor.
