New Pornographers Information
The New Pornographers is a Canadian indie rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Dan Bejar (vocals and guitar), Joe Seiders (drums and vocals), Kathryn Calder (vocals, guitar, and keyboard), Todd Fancey (lead guitar), Carl Newman (vocals and guitar), John Collins (bass), and Neko Case (vocals). The band was formed in Vancouver in 1997 in British Columbia. It was presented as a musical collective of singers, songwriters, and musicians from various projects.
The name, New Pornographers, was chosen by Newman. He said he decided to keep this name after watching a Japanese film entitled, The Pornographers. To date, New Pornographers has released around eight albums, including In the Morse Code of Brake Lights (2019), Whiteout Conditions (2017), Brill Bruisers (2014), Together (2010), Challengers (2007), Twin Cinema (2005), Electric Version (2003), and Mass Romantic (2000). They also recorded a live album during their 2006 tour. The album is available only at concerts or can be found on their website. The band was also the subject of Reginald Harkema’s documentary film in 2005 entitled Better Off in Bed.
The first four albums of the New Pornographers were each placed in the top 40 on The Village Voice’s Pazz and Jop year-end poll of hundreds of music reviewers. The band saw remarkable success from 2000 to 2006, with each of the band’s albums have reached the top 40 on the list.
