New Order Information
New Order is an English rock band that was established in 1980. The group was founded by Stephen Morris, percussionist, vocalist, guitarist Bernard Sumner, and Peter Hook as the bassist. When lead singer Ian Curtis took his own life, the members of Joy Division broke up and reformed. One of the most celebrated and impactful bands of the 1980s, New Order blended post-punk with electronic and dance music.
The band collaborated with graphic designer Peter Saville for a long time. They also served as the lead band for the Manchester-based indie record company, Factory Records, and its nightclub, The Haçienda.
Joy Division's image overshadowed the group's early years, but they learned to play electronic instruments and incorporate dance rhythms from the New York club scene of the 1980s. Their 1983 single "Blue Monday" became an instant club classic and the best-selling 12-inch record ever.
Disputes amongst members of the New Order led to Hook's resignation in 2007 and subsequent personnel changes, the most notable being the band's hiatuses. Music Complete, their tenth studio album, came out in 2015. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame considered Joy Division and New Order as a single act in 2023.
The Unity Tour, which New Order and the Pet Shop Boys were a part of, began on September 17, 2022. On this tour, thirteen stops were made across North America. On September 21, 2023, the New Order began their tour of the United Kingdom and Europe.
