Nestor Torres Information
Nestor Torres is a jazz flutist born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. At the age of 12, he began taking flute lessons. He attended the Escuela Libre de Musica and eventually went to Puerto Rico’s Inter-American University. Torres moved to New York with his family when he was 18 and attended Mannes College of Music to study classical and jazz music. Torres later participated at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He played at the World Music Concert in 2007 during One World Week, which took place at the University of Warwick.
Torres joined the faculty of Florida International University as a visiting guest artist and a founding director of the School of Music’s first charanga ensemble. He played in Herbst Theatre in San Francisco with Pablo Ziegler in performance “Tango Meets Jazz” on March 21, 2009. He also played at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles with the Dave Mathew Band on September 9, 2009. Torres has also performed at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games opening ceremony.
Nestor Torres released several notable albums throughout his music career including No Me Provoques, Afro – Charanga Vol. 2, Morning Ride, Dance of the Phoenix, Burning Whispers, Treasures of the Heart, This Side of Paradise, Mis Canciones Primeras, Mi Alma Latina, and The Sutra of The Lotus of The Wonderful Law.
