The University of Nebraska Omaha, which has its namesake city named Omaha in Nebraska, fields a baseball club known as the Omaha Mavericks. The Mavericks are a college baseball team participating in the Summit League and are members of the NCAA Division I. They debuted in the Division I competition in 2012 and joined the Summit League the following year.
The Omaha Mavericks play all their home games at Tal Anderson Field, located on the university campus. There was one NCAA Division I Tournament that the Mavericks participated in. They have participated in the Summit League for eight seasons, during which time they have won three regular season crowns in the Summit League and one Summit League Tournament title. Since the program's start in 1947, two Mavericks have gone on to play in the Major Leagues of Baseball, with one of those Mavericks being Bruce Benedict, a catcher named to the All-Star team twice.
