AMA Superbike Championship is a motorcycle racing series in America. It has been taking place almost every year since 1976. In the United States, it is considered the premier motorcycle road racing series. The AMA American Motorcyclist Association sanctions the series. The series has been promoted and run by MotoAmerica since 2015. They also manage many other AMA professional road racing championships across the country, including 600cc Supersport class. Initially, the series was called “Superbike Production .”The renowned factories started taking note after the series gained more attention in the United States.
Honda entered the Superbike Championship in 1980 with a factory team. They also brought a top rider from their side named Freddie Spencer, who competed on their behalf. In 1983, the AMA worked with the top teams and decided to reduce the maximum capacity of the Superbike class to 750 ccs. Daytona Motorsports Group has been the organizer under the supervision of AMA from 2009 to 2014. AMA was not pleased with motorcycle counts and the participation in their event. That’s why they stripped the DMG organization of the sanction and awarded it to KRAVE, a new organization led by Wayne Rainey. Currently, the television rights of the AMA Superbike Championship are held by the beIN Sports brand of Al Jazeera Media Network.
