Mickey Gilley Information
Mickey Leroy Gilley is an American musician and country music singer born in Natchez, Mississippi. One of his cousins was a successful rock and roll musician and singer, which caused Gilley to live in the musical shadow of his cousin for many years. Gilley is a cousin of Jimmy Swaggart, Jimmy Gilley, Carl McVoy, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Gilley opened up his first-ever nightclub in Pasadena, Texas, called Gilley’s Club. The club later became well-known as the world’s biggest honky-tonk. He recorded a song in 1974 entitled “Room Full of Roses.” The song was supposed to be recorded for fun, written by Sons of the Pioneers’ Tim Spencer. Gilley released his debut album in 1967 entitled “Down the Line.” He also had a hit from the album that was named “Now I Can Live Again.” Gilley has signed a record deal with a few labels since he has been in the music industry, such as Dot, Paula, Playboy, Epic Records, Branson, and Varese Sarabande.
Gilley holds a large number of notable studio albums that have been released throughout his legendary career. The albums include Lonely Wine (1964), City Lights (1975), Mickey’s Movin’ On (1975), Overnight Sensation (1975), First Class (1977), Flyin’ High (1978), Why Me, Lord (1978), That’s All That Matters to Me (1980), Invitation Only (May 20, 2003), Kickin’ It Down The Road (2016), and Two Old Cats (May 8, 2018).
Gilley has received many awards for his great work, such as the Academy of Country Music for Album of the Year and Academy of Country Music for Song of the Year, both in 1976.
