Michel Rivard Information
Michel Rivard (September 27, 1951) is a Canadian singer and songwriter born in Montreal, Quebec. He began his career at an early age by appearing in a Canadian television series entitled “Rue des Pignons” and TV commercials. Rivard became a member of the theatrical group Quenouille Bleue, where he began his career as a composer and writer. Later, he also became a member of Theatre Sainfoin that was founded in 1973.
Rivard formed a group in 1974 with other members of Theatre Sainfoin called “Beau Dommage.” Rivard himself developed composing and writing. The group soon became successful, which increased Rivard’s popularity. Rivard’s most popular song from this era was “La complainte du phoque en Alaska”. Beau Dommage disbanded in 1978, but the members performed a few reunion concerts in 1984 and 1994.
Rivard released the haunting and personal “Maudit Bonheur” in 1998. He also had his variety television show named “Studio TV5.” The show ran for a couple of years, where Rivard invited singers, songwriters, and musicians to perform.
Rivard has released several notable studio albums throughout his career including Méfiez-vous du grand amour (1977), De Longueuil à Berlin (1979), Roi de Rien (2013), Confiance (2006), Bonsoir… Mon nom est toujours Michel Rivard et voici mon quadruple album (2004), Simple (2004), and Le goût de L'eau (1992).
