Matthew Alexander "Max" Frost is an American producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Austin, Texas. At the age of four, he picked up percussion, and at age eight, he enrolled in Dave Seebree's Rock Camp USA to learn to play guitar. In secondary school, he enrolled at St. Andrew's Episcopal. During his teenage years, Frost honed his eclectic sound by participating in several musical endeavors. At 12, he began performing alongside well-known Austin musicians such as bluegrass violinist Ruby Jane and gypsy jazz fiddler Bob Schneider.
Frost was inspired to combine modern rhythms with classic vintage tones after hearing artists like Erykah Badu and D'Angelo in his late teens, and he started incorporating hip-hop elements into his blues-inspired stylings. Frost began his college career in the autumn of 2011 as an English major at The University of Texas at Austin, a choice he later described as "ridiculous."
He spent a lot of time at his dorm room's computer, composing and recording his music. He visited Los Angeles the following summer and stayed with an acquaintance who worked in the music video industry. Frost dropped out of school on the first day of his sophomore year in September 2012 to focus on his solo business. On September 15, 2015, Frost issued Intoxication, his second extended play.
