Masters of Harmony Information
In the mid-1980s, a group of barbershop singers from the Pasadena, California Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA, Inc.) decided to split off and form a new chapter "dedicated to musical excellence," which would become the Masters of Harmony's motto. Chartering as a chapter occurred in the spring of 1985, and the group performed for the first time at the Far Western District convention in the fall of that year.
Most of the chapter's founding members originally resided in a region known as the Foothill Cities, located at the southern foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. In 1998, the chapter formally became known as the Santa Fe Springs Chapter after moving its rehearsals from the San Fernando Valley Chapter to the Town Center in Santa Fe Springs, California. Since 2019 marks the conclusion of this partnership, the chapter has rebranded itself as the Greater Los Angeles Chapter.
From 1987 through 1996, under the direction of Dr. Greg Lyne; then from 1998 until 1999, under the direction of Jeff Oxley; then from 2000 until 2012, under the direction of Mark Hale; and now from 2012 until 2019, under the direction of Justin Miller. The chorus is looking for their next permanent musical director at the moment.
