Marco Antonio Barrera Information
Marco Antonio Barrera Tapia (January 17, 1974) is a former professional boxer. Between 1995 and 2001, he won the WBO junior featherweight title twice, the Ring magazine and lineal featherweight crowns in 2001 and 2003, and the combined WBC and IBF super featherweight titles in 2004 and 2007.
Barrera is remembered for his trilogy with Érik Morales, his encounter with Manny Pacquiao, and his rivalries with Naseem Hamed and Juan Manuel Márquez. In BoxRec's list of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers of all time, he is presently ranked No. 89. On ESPN's list of the 50 greatest boxers of all time, Barrera was ranked number 43. In 2017, he became a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Oscar De La Hoya promoted Barrera's fights through his Golden Boy Promotions business. He received his training at De La Hoya's facility in Big Bear, California. Barrera has been a pundit for ESPN Deportes' weekly boxing show Golpe a Golpe ("Blow by Blow"), which airs live on the network on Friday nights, since January 2009. Jorge Eduardo Sanchez, a SportsCenter anchor, is Barrera's co-host.
