La Bayadere Information
La Bayadere is a ballet that was choreographed by Marius Petipa (A french Choreographer). The music of the dance was produced by Ludwig Minkus (An Austrian-Jewish Composer of ballet music). It was primarily staged for the Ekaterina Vazem as her benefit performance. She was a Russian Prima ballerina, and she is the one who created the principal role of Nikiya.
The ballet was first presented in St. Petersburg, Russia, at the Imperial Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre. The Imperial Ballet presented it. “The Kingdom of the Shades” scene became one of the essential pieces of all classical ballet and was Petipa’s supreme masterpiece.
Overall, La Bayadere was the creation of Marius Petipa and the dramatist Sergei Khudekov. The ballet has the story of warrior Solor and the Bayadere Nikiya. Both of them sworn eternal fidelity to each other.
The role of Solor in the ballet was created by Lev Ivanov, who was a forty-three years old Russian choreographer and ballet dancer. Pavel Gerdt played the role. Maria Gorshenkova created the parts of Hamsatti or Gamzatti while Christian Johansson created the rajah of Golconda. Nikolai Golts created the role of High Brahmin.
Petipa clashed with Prima ballerina Vazem during the rehearsals due to her entrance in Grand pas d’action. He also experienced problems with elaborating ballet’s stage effects.
