Krishna Das Information
Krishna Das (May 31, 1947) is an American singer born Jeffrey Kagel and is best known for performing kirtan, which means "chanting the names of God." Since 1996, he has put out seventeen albums. His 2012 album Live Ananda was nominated for Best New Age Album at the 2013 Grammys, where he also performed.
Krishna Das has collaborated with a wide variety of musicians. Sting features on Pilgrim Heart, and Hans Christian has been a multi-instrumentalist on two of his albums. Along with the band Baird Hersey & Prana, he contributed an instrumental for their Gathering in the Light CD, which fused Western music with overtone singing. Along with Steely Dan bassist Walter Becker, Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen, and Steve Gorn on flute, All One (2010) was co-produced by Becker. Several CDs include Ty Burhoe's tabla playing. Rick Rubin created a Heartfelt Breath.
His 2012 CD Live Ananda was a finalist for Best New Age CD at the 2013 Grammys. He also had a performance at the Grammys. Krishna Das Music, the company he founded, published his album Kirtan Wallah in April 2014. To disseminate the teachings of his spiritual master, Neem Karoli Baba, Krishna Das co-founded the non-profit Kirtan Wallah Foundation in 2014.
