Kris Myers Information
It was on April 5th, 1977, that Kris Myers entered the world. When he was eight years old, he received a drum set and quickly became interested in rock and punk. Myers played in several groups in high school, but the Skalawags, a ska/punk band, was the most influential. The band had moderate success, but they turned down a tour of Japan to further their education.
From 1995 to 1999, Myers studied music at Elmhurst College and played drums for the school's jazz band. The Elmhurst College Jazz Band, led by Doug Beach, performed at festivals in Italy (Umbria Jazz Festival), Indonesia (Jakarta Jazz Festival), and Switzerland (Montreaux Jazz Festival). Mark Colby from Chicago and Nicholas Payton from New York are just a few of the jazz greats who have collaborated with Myers.
After original drummer Mike Mirro left Umphrey's McGee in 2003, Myers stepped in to play the drums for the band. Under Myers' leadership, Umphrey's has published eleven studio albums and played over one hundred concerts annually. Umphrey's has played at various prestigious events and venues, including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Fuji Rock Festival, South by Southwest, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Ryman Theatre, The Beacon Theatre, and more.
