Kentucky Wildcats Softball Information
In 1997, the first season of the University of Kentucky softball team took place. With Rachel Lawson's hiring in July 2007, University of Kentucky Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart brought her on board. At the helm since her appointment, Lawson has led the UK to eight NCAA Super Regionals, including the program's inaugural berth in the 2014 College World Series.
Since taking over in 2008, Lawson has not only compiled an impressive win-loss record of 495-297 throughout her fourteen years at the helm of the Wildcats' athletic program but also fostered a culture of growth and excellence. This makes her the winningest head coach in school history. With eleven victories over ranked opponents, UK concluded 2016 in the top 14 of both collegiate softball rankings, a testament to the team's inspiring journey under Lawson's leadership.
With Lawson at the helm since 2008, John Cropp Stadium has come into being, among other achievements. The 2013 season marked the premiere of the $9.5 million facility. Not only was the 2013 SEC Tournament held in the UK, but the school also hosted an NCAA regional, which was a first. The UK has hosted a UK regional in 2013, 2014, 2016–2019, and 2021 since 2013.
