Kenan Thompson (May 10, 1978) is an American comedian and actor. He was born in Columbus, Ohio. At five, Thompson's mother signed him up for acting lessons. He didn't have a single line when he originally played Toto in a church production of The Wiz. As a young man, he continued to act in productions such as "The Gingerbread Duck" at his school. He tried for a role in The Youth Ensemble of Atlanta(YEA). The Price Is Right was a show he loved as a kid, calling it "my first love" and "really pleasant viewing" that influenced his approach to acting.
Thompson's early job was as a reporter for CNN's "Real News for Kids," where he covered the entertainment beat. He then played Principal Pimpell, Miss Piddlin, Pierre Escargot, and Superdude during the first five seasons of the original run of All That. At the same time he was filming All That, he was the lead of Nickelodeon's Kenan & Kel from 1996 to 2000. While a student at Tri-Cities High School, an East Point, Georgia, a magnet school for the creative and performing arts, he made his acting debut in the film D2: The Mighty Ducks.
Thompson's filmography includes roles as diverse as Good Burger (inspired by an All That skit of the same name) and the title role in Fat Albert. He has also appeared in the films Heavyweights, D2, and D3, and Love Don't Cost a Thing, Barbershop: The Next Cut, My Boss's Daughter, and Snakes on a Plane.
