KC and the Sunshine Band are an American funk and disco band which was created in the year 1973. The group is based in Hialeah, Florida. The band plays disco, funk, and R&B genres. The current band list includes; Harry Wayne Casey, Maria De Crescenzo, Anika Mungin, Fermin Goytisolo, David Simmons, J Whitt, Jeffery Reeves, James Dawkins, Steve Lashley, John Reid, Cisco Dimas, Miles Fielder, Felipe Lamoglia, Kenetha Morris, and Janell Burgess.
KC and the Sunshine Band took its name from the last name of the lead vocalist, Harry Wayne Casey (KC), while the 'Sunshine Band' from KC's home state of Florida named the Sunshine State. Harry Wayne Casey (KC) is also the founder of the band. The initial songs by the band include "Blow Your Whistle" (September 1973), "Sound Your Funky Horn" (February 1974), "Rock Your Baby," "I'm a Pushover," "Get Down Tonight," "Shotgun Shuffle," "I Like to Do It," and a few more.
The self-titled second album by KC and the Sunshine Band was KC and the Sunshine Band in 1975. It included the band’s very first significant hit in the U.S. named "Get Down Tonight." Some of the other successful albums by the band are Do It Good, The Sound of Sunshine, Who Do Ya (Love), Do You Wanna Go Party, Space Cadet Solo Flight, All in a Night's Work, Oh Yeah!, Yummy, and a few more.
Get Down Live! (1995, Intersound) and Live: Get Down Tonight (1998, EMI-Capitol) are the two live albums by KC and the Sunshine Band. Some of the compilation albums by the band are Their Greatest Hits, The Best of KC and the Sunshine Band: Special Edition, I'm Your Boogie Man and Other Hits, The Very Best Of, and the list goes on.
