Karen Gomyo Information
Karen Gomyo (1982) is a Japanese-Canadian classical violinist. She was born in Tokyo, Japan, and raised in Montreal, Quebec. She began taking violin lessons at 5 years old. She traveled to New York City at age 10 to attend the Juilliard School at the invitation of renowned educator Dorothy DeLay. Gomyo's worldwide career as a soloist and chamber musician was launched when she won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions at 15.
Along with her work with prestigious orchestras, venues, and colleagues worldwide, Gomyo played the violin. They served as a guide and narrator in the 2014 Antonio Stradivarius documentary "The Mysteries of the Supreme Violin," aired globally on NHK World. She was invited to play at the 2011 United Nations headquarters in New York's First Symposium for Terrorism Victims.
Astor Piazzolla's longtime pianist and tango icon Pablo Ziegler, along with his collaborators Hector del Curto (bandoneon), Claudio Ragazzi (electric guitar), and Pedro Giraudo, have all praised Karen Gomyo for her interpretation of the Nuevo Tango music (double bass).
