Karen Clark Sheard (November 15, 1960) is an American Gospel musician, singer, and songwriter. She was born in Detroit, Michigan. During the break between albums by the Clark Sisters, Karen Clark-Sheard released her critically acclaimed solo album Finally Karen, which featured the hits "Balm in Gilead" (which she had previously recorded with the Clark Sisters for their Heart & Soul album in the 1980s), the R&B-flavored "Just for Me," and the contemporary duet "Nothing Without You," which featured the R&B diva Faith Evans.
Sheard received a Grammy nomination and the Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for "Best Female Vocalist" after the release of Karen, which became one of the year's most popular gospel albums. Despite the success of her debut album and subsequent tour, Clark-Sheard's life was nearly cut short in 2001 when a blood vessel ruptured during a cosmetic treatment. Her 2002 CD was titled "2nd Chance" because of this event.
Before releasing All in One, Clark-Sheard's first studio-recorded album in 13 years, he released two more live albums, The Heavens Are Telling, and It's Not Over (which incorporated some studio recordings). The album debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard Gospel list and at number one hundred and eighty-eight on Billboard's Top 200 albums list, with the lead track "Prayed Up" reaching number nine on the U.S. Billboard Gospel Songs chart. Beyoncé and Mariah Carey cite Karen Clark-Sheard as an inspiration for their singing styles.
