Kaiju Big Battel Information
New York City-based performing entertainment troupe Kaiju Big Battel was founded by Rand Borden. Japanese tokusatsu kaiju eiga flicks and professional wrestling are lampooned in these shows. Performers dress up as huge monsters like Godzilla and Gamera and engage in a series of "Battles" in the style of professional wrestling. It all started with a typo on Borden's T-shirt design, which then became a running gag amongst the crew.
Many references and inside jokes are made during the shows for the fans of many subcultures, such as professional wrestling (particularly Mexican wrestling), superhero comics, and Japanese pop culture. Character names are sometimes written in imitation of Spanish or Japanese, and the use of Engrish is frequent for comic effect. In 2018, a Kaiju Big Battel video game was released on PC and mobile platforms. The game is a parody of Final Fantasy-like RPGs from the 1990s, created by Super Walrus Games.
In 2011, Rand Borden returned to making Kaiju independently after disbanding Studio Kaiju. After appearing at the event live-streamed on Twitch at Twitchcon 2017, Kaiju Big Battel had its first European event at Alexandra Palace in London on May 4, 2019.
