John Jorgenson Information
John Richard Jorgenson (July 6, 1956) is an American musician from Madison, Wisconsin. His music is country, rock, and Gypsy jazz. Jorgenson began to play both the piano and clarinet at 8. He attended his high school in Redlands, California, and later went to the University of Redlands. He has been playing professionally since 14. Rocking Pneumonia was one of his early bands during this period.
Jorgenson played full-time at Disneyland in his early 20s. He played clarinet with the Main Street Maniacs (Dixieland), guitar with the Rhythm Brothers (Django Reinhardt style swing), and mandolin with the Thunder Mountain Boys (bluegrass). These three bands were composed of the same four members who changed music styles and costumes at each interval all day long.
Hellecasters was a guitar trio founded by Jorgenson in 1993 with Will Ray and Jerry Donahue. The trio released many albums during the 1990s. Jorgenson also collaborated with many other notable artists such as Vince Gill, Albert Lee, Brent Mason, Brad Paisley, James Burton, Redd Volkaert, and Steve Wariner. He is also known as a patron for Guitar-X (Tech Music Schools) in London. Some of his notable collaborations are Brooks & Dunn, Red Dirt Road (Arista, 2003), Steph Carse, Steph Carse (H2E, 2000), John Cowan, Sixty (Compass, 2014), Highway 101, and The New Frontier (Liberty, 1993).
As a leader, Jorgenson released Emotional Savant (J2, 1999), Istiqbal Gathering (J2, 2010), J2B2 Special Edition (J2, 2014), and From the Crow's Nest (Cleopatra, 2017).
