John Ford Coley Information
John Ford Coley (October 13, 1948) is an American classically trained pianist, singer, author, actor, and guitarist. He is known for his partnership with the well-known musical duo England Dan & John Ford Coley. Born in Dallas, Texas, Coley grew up listening and singing church hymns, early rock and roll, and the Grand Ole Opry. Coley got classical piano training at an early age. He was 16 years old and studied at W. W. Samuell High School in Dallas when he joined Theze Few. The group later became Southwest F.O.B, and he toured across Texas.
Along with one of his schoolmates, Dan Seals, with whom Coley had joined the Southwest F.O.B, they began their acoustic act named Colley and Wayland, although later renamed, England Dan & John Ford Coley. The duo signed its first major record deal with A&M Records. They moved to Los Angeles in 1971, where the young boys opened for numerous bands. In 1972, the first breakthrough came for the duo when they released the song “Simone,” which turned out to be a number one hit in Japan. The song also reached a level of popularity in France.
In the 1980s, Coley acted in teen films and has written many songs for different movies and television shows throughout his career. He has played with various groups and artists, including Edgar Winter, Al Stewart, Stephen Bishop, Christopher Cross, Poco, Lou Gramm, Three Dog Night, Terry Sylvester, and Ambrosia.
